Batman is an iconic superhero that has origins in comics written as early as the 1950s. It has since been made into numerous movies by various producers including the latest trilogy by Christopher Nolan. The story starts out with Bruce Wayne, an American billionaire who witnesses the death of his parents at a young age. Together with Alfred his butler, he vows revenge on the people who murdered his parents and takes up a crime fighting persona.

After training mentally and physically, he sports a bat costume with the famous bat mobile and starts fighting crime in his home of Gotham City.Like most movie trilogies, it’s important to watch the Batman movies in order. The series started by Christopher Nolan in 2005 can be watched without viewing any of the previous movies. It’s a completely unrelated series to the early ones made by Tim Burton, however, it does depict the same story. The Nolan series is meant to take on a more realistic and serious tone versus previous attempts. It starts at the beginning of the story, and is completely independent from Burton’s depiction. For the sake of accuracy, I will list the order of both Nolan’s and Burton’s Batman.The latest movie from this character was Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 which earned the makers $422 million world-wide at the box office.

This movie is not related to any of the former series, but rather a continuation of the 2013 flick, Man Of Steel. The film is the second movie in DC’s Extended Universe which is produced by Warner Brothers. Other movies to follow from the Extended Universe series are Suicide Squad (2016), and Wonder Woman (2017). Movie OrderTrailersMany people who have watched both series have identified with Nolan’s depiction as more realistic. A common criticism of Burton’s version is that it was comical and over the top. However, when you’re depicting a superhero who dresses in a bat suit to fight crime, is all of the realism necessary?

Others contend that the costume, bat mobile, and voice overs are poorly done in Nolan’s version. Still more claim that the original series more closely follows the original comic book. It all comes down to personal preference. If you want good graphics, special effects, and a story you can relate to, Nolan’s is probably the series for you. If you want something that feels like the old comic books, you should probably watch Burton’s.Despite its criticisms, the latest Batman trilogy has been massively successful. All three films were nominated for awards, and the last two grossed over 1 billion dollars of worldwide sales.

Because of their success, the Batman series will live on in various forms. Production for the sequel to Dawn of Justice has already begun, and the film Justice League will be released sometime in 2017. Whatever your decision, the Batman movie series is one of the best comic books turned movie out there. Watch both movie series in order and decide for yourself which one is better.
